Art and culture
In the sector of Art and Culture Fondazione Roma implements both its own projects and others in association with local private and public bodies, having considered that art and culture are not solely a medium for beauty and aesthetic pleasure since they also foster ethics and spiritual development and may drive the socio-economic progress of the community. The Foundation owns an important exhibition area, Fondazione Roma Museo (formerly the Museo del Corso), which, as strongly advocated by the Chair of the Foundation, Professor Emmanuele F.M. Emanuele, was established in 1999. To date, over thirty special exhibitions have been held in partnership with the most prestigious international museums.
Since 2002 Fondazione Roma has supported the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma established by Fondazione Arts Accademy for the purpose of spreading a musical culture, especially amongst youths and the less fortunate. In addition to the regular programme for the symphonic season performed in the ‘Auditorium della Conciliazione’ in Rome, the Orchestra holds concerts in venues where symphony music is not normally played, such as schools and other social facilities. Having toured to Europe, Latin America and China (where it held a benefit concert in the Province of Sichuan which was devastated by the earthquake in 2008) and most recently in the United States, the Orchestra has also been very successful abroad.
Amongst the Foundation’s self-managed projects, Ritratti di Poesia (Portraits of Poetry) is worthy of a special mention. This annual event is dedicated to poetry and attended by authoritative Italian and International poets as well as young talents.
The Foundation also supports the Résonnance Project of the Associazione Résonnance – ITALIA, that aims to bring music into prisons, schools, rest homes and, in the field of visual arts, promotes jointly with the art magazine ‘Inside Art’ the “Talent Prize” for the purpose of encouraging progress and success for young talented artists.
During 2009 the Foundation entered into an agreement with the Comune di Roma (Town Council of Rome) whereby several initiatives aimed at increasing the cultural offer in the city shall be jointly implemented. Said agreement also provides that Fondazione Roma shall be involved in the planning of the cultural events held by the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, which is also Chaired by Professor Emanuele.
Lastly, the Foundation implements a series of initiatives aimed at protecting ethnic minorities and asserting the value of memory and the observance of human rights.
