Health
Fondazione Roma operates in the Health sector both with its own projects and by fostering projects in line with its goals and quality standards. One of the most important self operated projects established by the Foundation is the Hospice which has been a centre of excellence in the field of palliative care since 1999. As well as admitting patients with a short life expectancy the Hospice provides home assistance to those who are suffering from Cancer, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Alzheimer.
With the aim of improving both the quality and the quantity of health services provided to citizens in the field of prevention, diagnosis and care, the Foundation also supports local public and private non-profit hospitals (situated in the provinces of Rome, Frosinone and Latina). Modern healthcare technologies may be purchased with the grants issued by the Foundation to healthcare facilities ranging from the Local Health Service to General and University Hospitals.
An innovative project that the Foundation has established in the field of Health is the therapeutic community called “La Casa” which has been opened for individuals who, having been recently discharged from psychiatric wards in hospitals and nursing homes are not yet self sufficient. In this home, accomplished by the Centro Italiano di Solidarietà (CeIS) educators, psychiatrists and nurses help patients to gradually reintegrate into society.
