Mediterraneo
Fondazione Roma Mediterraneo, established in March 2008 by the Fondazione Roma as suggested by the Chair, Professor Emanuele, aims to promote economic, social and cultural development in Mediterranean countries through joint projects that revive their shared values and lead to the achievement of a common Mediterranean identity. Reaping the harvest of the task that led to the publication entitled âArte e Cultura del Mediterraneo nel XX secolo (Art and Culture in the twentieth Century Mediterranean)â this foundation - that operates mainly in three fields: socio-economic development; education; art and intercultural dialogue - is part of Fondazione Romaâs strategy to enhance culture as a medium for knowledge, comparison and dialogue.
The purpose is to contribute to the great challenges that involve our cultural roots and ideals, both in the present period and in the future of our society, with suggestions, discussions and a planning ability.
The Foundationâs headquarters are located in Rome and it has representative offices in Palermo and Rabat, Morocco. Though still young, the Foundation has already accomplished several projects such as the International Conference âMediterraneo: Porta dâOriente (The Mediterranean: Gateway to the East)â held in Palermo on the 13th â 14th May 2010 which, addressing themes such as the relationship between Italy (particularly Rome), the Mediterranean and the East, was attended by Nobel prize winners, business and institutional representatives, economists, sociologists and artists.
The foundation also fosters intercultural dialogue by means of innovative training courses for youths, such as, a Masterâs Degree Course in Peace and Mediterranean Development Cooperation Policies held in the University of Reggio Calabria and the Masterâs Degree Course in Religion and Culture on the subject of âMediterranean civilization. History, Culture, Society, held in the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
The Fondazione Roma Mediterraneo also cooperates with the Fondazione Romaeuropa, of which the Fondazione Roma is a founding member, in the organization of the âRomaeuropa Festivalâ, a variety of musical, dance and theatre performances held every year, during which artists from various nations meet in the Capital.
