Poetry

Fondazione Roma fosters the spreading of a poetic culture which, according to the Chairman, Professor Emmanuele F.M. Emanuele, “Has not just an aesthetic value, since poetry is also ethical and civil. Anything produced by mankind should offer an opportunity for spiritual development and verses allow one to become responsive to the world, experience true relationships and bring the value of the ‘Human Being’ back to the centre of attention”.

The Foundation’s most significant project in this field is the review entitled “Ritratti di Poesia (Portraits of Poetry) which is one of the most important events held during the Winter in Rome.

The event intends to encourage that the artistic, ethical and social values found in poetry be spread by means of meetings, contests, readings, ideas, verses and opinions. Special attention is paid to Mediterranean poetry in pursuance of one of the main purposes of the Fondazione Roma Mediterraneo, established in 2008 by the Fondazione Roma, namely to foster dialogue between countries around the Mare Nostrum in order to overcome the cultural, social, religious and economic barriers that even today divide people.

The poetry review, which will be held for the sixth time in 2012, is built on an interaction between the main characters and the audience and is attended by important authors from Italy and abroad and young talents.

The event is held every year during January in the suggestive setting of the Tempio di Adriano, located in the centre of Rome.

The next meeting with ‘Ritratti di Poesia’ will be held on the 26th January 2012.
